Marjorie May Fair is a Melbourne-based hairstylist, specialising in vintage and retro glamour.
Her main source of inspiration came from her grandmother, who always wore her hair in a wet set, and would
never leave the house unless she was well dressed from head to toe, which naturally meant applying lippy with accessories to match! The craft of hairstyling had always intrigued Marjorie. She spent hours flicking through old photographs of her family, and admired old Hollywood actresses who always looked so beautiful and glamorous.
Whilst other little girls got their fashion inspiration from the Spice Girls, Marjorie grew up idolizing Doris Day, Lucille Ball and Grace Kelly. Through her teen years, she found herself adopting little fashion traits that these glamour beauties held, whether it be a flower in her hair, a vintage scarf around her neck or a pair of Mary Jane’s with a cute buckle. She struggled with the mainstream fashion trends of the time and needed a change.
Her time at the University of Ballarat sparked intrigue about the history of film/theatre. While completing her acting degree, she researched many Hollywood stars from the 1940’s and 50’s. With that, her contagious love for vintage glam grew and she immediately fell in love with the idea of stepping out in style inspired from era’s passed.
In the last few years she found herself immersed
in a whole new world – the alluring world of pinup.
Surrounding herself with vintage enthusiasts alike, she began experimenting with different hairstyles and used old Hollywood photos as her main source of inspiration. Over the last six months Marjorie began training in Vintage hairstyling with Kristy Lee and Miss Rockabilly Ruby – two highly acclaimed hairdressers in Melbourne and LA.
Marjorie May Fair is now a freelance hairstylist, creating looks from 1920’s finger waves to 1940’s victory rolls; making every woman smile in style!
